http://www.shutdownday.org/Shutdown Day is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the 2008 campaign. The goal for this year was to challenging people worldwide to stay away from their computers and gadgets for all of 24 hours, as well as organize special events that would help fellow addicts to take advantage of the spare 24 hours to contribute to the betterment of society.
The results looked very promising,
- Shutdown Day, in co-operation with Ville de Montreal, successfully organized park and waterfront cleanup activities in the boroughs of Verdun, St-Laurent, and C?te-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Gr?ce. Over 400 people participated in the Verdun cleanup drive, and results from the other boroughs are still to come in.
- About 14,000 people worldwide pledged to stay away from their computers.
- We received huge support from East European countries like Latvia, Hungary, Poland, and Lithuania.
- In terms of percentages, about 27% participants were from the United States, and about 5% from Hungary, Canada, Poland, and Latvia.
- We received wide media coverage by news sources like Reuters, Yahoo!, GlobalTV Quebec, TQS, Radio-Canada, The Globe and Mail, The Montreal Gazette, The Calgary Herald, R&D Magazine, IndieScribe, etc.
